About this course
Doctoral studies in the humanities and social sciences stress the ability to conduct research independently, the ability to complete and report an extensive research project, and the ability to present and defend the research in a public examination. Doctoral education provides expertise not only in one's own field of research but also in analytic thinking and problem-solving, and develops the communication and digital skills needed in the information society. In the Doctoral Programme in Humanities and Social Sciences, the specialisation can be 1) History, Ethnology and Cultural Anthropology, 2) Language Studies and Communication Studies, 3) Music, Arts, and Culture Studies or 4) Social Sciences and Philosophy. The pursued degree is either PhD or DSocSc (varies depending on specialisation). The specialisation is selected at the application stage.
