Kemia on tieteenalana hyvin laaja ja Turun yliopiston kemian tutkimus lähestyy yhtäältä biologiaa ja lääketiedettä ja toisaalta fysiikkaa ja materiaalitutkimusta. Kemian opinnot antavat perusteelliset pohjatiedot kemian eri aloilta sekä valmiudet turvalliseen työskentelyyn laboratoriossa. Kemian opintoja tukevat luonnontieteelliset sivuaineopinnot. Laboratoriotyöskentelyyn perehdytään jo opintojen alussa ja opintojen edetessä harjoitustyöt liittyvät entistä lähemmin laitoksella tehtävään tutkimustyöhön.
