Doctor Doctoral Programme in Science
About this course
The aim of the Doctoral Programme in Science is to train and educate top-level scientists and experts in natural sciences and mathematics. The programme is multidisciplinary by design, encompassing research in seven core discipline areas: (i) atmospheric sciences, (ii) chemistry, (iii) computer science, (iv) geosciences and geography, (v) mathematics and statistics, (vi) materials research and nanoscience, and (vii) particle physics and universe sciences. Both fundamental and applied research is included in the programme, addressing global challenges related to e.g. climate change, energy, health, technology, and sustainable resource use, using both theoretical and experimental methods. Therein, we work with a wide number of partner faculties at the University of Helsinki, other universities, national and international research organizations, and businesses. The multidisciplinary nature of the program enables doctoral researchers to gain new and broader perspectives on their research and to interact with researchers from diverse disciplines in an internationally respected scientific community. The programme prepares doctoral researchers for a wide range of roles in society, including positions in academia, research institutes, industry, government agencies, and international organizations.
