LLB Law
About this course
Law is the framework through which societies organise collective life: defining rights and obligations, resolving disputes, constraining the exercise of power, and establishing the norms by which citizens and institutions are held to account. Studying law at university is not simply about learning rules; it is about developing the analytical precision, logical rigour, and capacity for careful argument that enable you to apply general principles to complex and contested situations. These capacities are valued not just in the legal profession but across a very wide range of careers. At Roehampton University, this three-year full-time LLB includes a foundation year for students who benefit from additional preparation before engaging with the full law degree, and a sandwich year that gives you extended professional experience in a legal or professional environment before your final year. Work placement is also integrated throughout the programme. You will study the core foundations of English law, including contract, tort, criminal law, land law, equity and trusts, constitutional and administrative law, ensuring the degree satisfies the academic stage of legal training. The programme is taught by leading law experts in a supportive environment. Graduates who wish to enter legal practice will need to complete further professional training, but the LLB provides the qualifying academic foundation for that route in England and Wales. Many graduates also enter careers in business, the civil service, finance, management, human resources, compliance, and journalism, where legal reasoning and analytical skill are genuine professional assets. Postgraduate study in law, criminology, international relations, or business is also a common next step for those who want to deepen their expertise or change direction.
