BSc Marketing / Modern Languages
About this course
Marketing with modern languages is a combination that addresses one of the most persistent challenges in international business: communicating effectively with customers, partners, and stakeholders in their own language and cultural terms. Marketing is the discipline concerned with understanding customers, creating value, and communicating it through the right channels and messages. Modern languages give you the linguistic and cultural competence to apply marketing principles across different markets rather than only through the filter of a single language and cultural perspective. Together they produce a graduate who is both commercially skilled and genuinely intercultural. At Aberystwyth University, this four-year full-time programme combines elements of marketing, consumer behaviour, digital and strategic marketing with the study of languages and culture. The programme is taught by marketing academics within Aberystwyth Business School and language specialists in the Department of Modern Languages, giving you access to expertise in both areas. You will develop a solid grounding in the external influences on the marketing world and the rapidly changing role of digital media and information technology in marketing practice, alongside linguistic and cultural knowledge in your chosen modern language. Digital and strategic marketing are growing in importance across all sectors, and the integration of language capability adds direct value for roles in international marketing teams or organisations operating across different language markets. You will develop skills in marketing strategy, consumer insight, digital marketing, campaign planning, and professional language use in a commercial context, alongside intercultural communication and the ability to work effectively across linguistic boundaries. Graduates from marketing with modern languages programmes pursue careers in international marketing, brand management, digital marketing, market research, public relations, and a range of other commercial roles where language skills add direct value. Further study in marketing, international business, or languages is a natural continuation.
