BSc Marketing
About this course
Marketing is the discipline concerned with understanding customers, building brands, and developing strategies that connect products and services with the people who need them. It sits at the intersection of psychology, economics, communication, and creative practice, drawing on research and data to understand what people want and how they make decisions, and on design and storytelling to reach and persuade them. In an era of rapid technological change, digital platforms, and shifting consumer expectations, marketing has become one of the most dynamic and consequential fields in business. At Teesside University this three-year full-time programme develops your understanding of marketing strategy, consumer behaviour, brand management, and digital tools alongside a strong emphasis on contemporary themes including sustainability and the circular economy. You will examine the business opportunities that a more sustainable economic model presents, develop your own commercial ideas with social impact, and explore the fundamentals of user experience and interface design in digital contexts. A sandwich year and a year abroad are built into the programme, and a work placement is integrated into the degree, giving you real professional experience in a marketing environment and the opportunity to apply your learning in live projects and campaigns. Marketing graduates are in demand across virtually every sector, since all organisations need to understand their audiences and communicate with them effectively. Roles include brand manager, marketing executive, digital marketing specialist, market research analyst, content strategist, and social media manager, among many others. The emphasis on digital skills and sustainability in this programme is well aligned with current employer priorities. Many graduates also continue to professional qualifications from bodies such as the Chartered Institute of Marketing, or pursue postgraduate study in marketing, business, or communications.
