BSc Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence
About this course
Computer science and artificial intelligence is one of the most timely and consequential degree combinations available today. Computer science provides the foundational knowledge of algorithms, data structures, systems architecture, and software engineering that underpins all of computing. Artificial intelligence extends this to the methods for building systems that learn, reason, perceive, and act, from machine learning and deep neural networks to natural language processing, computer vision, and planning algorithms. Together they form the technical core of the most transformative technology of our era. At Swansea University this three-year, full-time programme teaches you to code and much more, empowering you to create and innovate to solve real-world problems. From day one you will be building software, exploring new technologies, and developing the skills that employers are looking for across the technology industry. The programme covers the mathematical and computational foundations alongside practical programming and project work, developing both your theoretical understanding and your ability to build real systems that do useful things. Graduates of computer science and artificial intelligence go on to careers across the full breadth of the technology sector and beyond. Many move into roles as software engineers, machine learning engineers, AI researchers, data scientists, and systems architects in technology companies, financial services, healthcare, government, and the growing range of organisations investing in AI capabilities. Others build careers in robotics, autonomous systems, natural language processing, or computer vision. The combination of core computer science skills and AI expertise is particularly valued as organisations in every sector seek people who can build, deploy, and manage AI systems responsibly and effectively. Further study at Masters or doctoral level in artificial intelligence, machine learning, or computer science is available for those who want to develop deep specialist expertise or pursue a research direction.
