BEng Manufacturing Engineering with foundation year
About this course
Manufacturing engineering is the discipline concerned with the design, optimisation and management of the processes and systems used to produce physical goods, from the individual machines and tools on a production line to the layout of entire factories and supply chains. It sits at the intersection of mechanical engineering, materials science, electronics, computing and operational management, asking how products can be made faster, more reliably, more sustainably and at lower cost. As automation, robotics and digital manufacturing technologies transform the factory floor, manufacturing engineers must understand both the physical realities of production and the software, data and control systems that increasingly govern it. At Coventry University this four-year, full-time programme includes a foundation year, providing a supported entry into engineering study for those who need additional preparation in mathematics and physical science. You will then develop hands-on experience with robotics, automation, computer-aided manufacturing and sustainable design, building technical knowledge in materials, production processes, quality systems and lean manufacturing alongside the business and leadership skills that senior engineers require. The programme includes a sandwich year, a year abroad and a work placement, giving you extended professional experience in manufacturing or engineering organisations before graduation and an international perspective on manufacturing practice and culture. Graduates move into careers as manufacturing engineers, process engineers, production engineers, quality engineers, automation specialists, operations managers and supply chain professionals across aerospace, automotive, food and beverages, pharmaceuticals, electronics, defence and the rapidly growing advanced manufacturing sector. Professional development toward Chartered Engineer status is a common long-term goal. Many graduates also continue to postgraduate study in manufacturing engineering, industrial management or related engineering fields.
