About this course

Business management is the study of how organisations are created, run, and developed, bringing together disciplines as diverse as economics, psychology, finance, law, and social science in the service of understanding how people and institutions make decisions and pursue goals. It is a subject that is simultaneously practical and theoretical: it gives you frameworks for understanding the business world while also training the analytical and communication skills that effective managers need. The Open University offers business management through distance learning and part-time study, which makes the degree accessible to people who are already working and want to develop their management knowledge alongside their professional practice, as well as career changers and those for whom full-time campus-based study is not possible. This mode of study is genuinely well suited to business management: you can apply what you are learning to real situations in your working life, testing ideas against experience in ways that enrich both the academic content and your professional development.
