BSc Creative Computing
About this course
Creative computing is a discipline that sits at the meeting point of art, design, and computer science, concerned with using technology to create digital experiences that are imaginative, interactive, and expressive. It moves beyond the purely functional application of computing to ask what digital tools and systems can do aesthetically and culturally, and it attracts people who want to build things that are both technically sophisticated and creatively compelling. The digital creative industries, encompassing games, interactive art, digital fashion, immersive experience, and emerging technology, are growing sectors that increasingly want practitioners who can think across both creative and technical domains. At the University of Southampton, this three-year full-time programme invites you to design and build innovative digital experiences that bring art, science, and technology together. You will gain experience with sculpture and fabrication, textiles, and 3D printing alongside programming, interactive design, and computational creativity, developing a practical and conceptual understanding of how physical and digital making can intersect. The programme develops your ability to work across media and disciplines, producing work that demonstrates both technical competence and creative ambition. Entry typically requires around 168 UCAS tariff points. Creative computing graduates work in the games industry, interactive media, digital art and installation, product and interaction design, technology consultancy, education technology, and the growing field of creative technology innovation. The combination of technical programming skills with creative design thinking is distinctive and valued across sectors that are increasingly shaped by digital experience. Many graduates also continue to postgraduate study in creative computing, interaction design, or related fields.
