At Southampton Solent University, this three-year full-time programme invites you to explore what it means to be an educator in contemporary Britain, while building practical skills for work in diverse educational contexts. You will examine theories of child and adult development, curriculum design, inclusion and special educational needs, the sociology of schooling, and the policy frameworks that shape provision from early years through to further education. The programme connects theory to practice, encouraging you to reflect on real educational challenges and to develop an evidence-informed approach to the questions educators face every day. Graduates with an education degree have a wide range of career options. Teaching is the most direct path, and graduates who wish to qualify as classroom teachers typically complete a Postgraduate Certificate in Education after their degree. Beyond teaching, graduates work as learning support practitioners, teaching assistants, family and community liaison workers, youth workers, education administrators, and policy advisers. Roles in the charity sector, local government, and educational publishing are also common. The degree provides a strong foundation for postgraduate study in education, social work, early childhood studies, and related disciplines.
