BA Motion Graphics
About this course
Motion graphics is the discipline of combining graphic design with animation and moving image, creating visual content in which typography, illustration, photography and abstract forms move and change over time in ways that communicate, explain, persuade or entertain. From title sequences in film and television to animated infographics, brand identity in motion, user interface animation and digital advertising, motion graphics has become an essential component of visual communication in a world saturated with moving image content. Nottingham Trent University offers this three-year full-time programme, developing both the design foundations and the technical skills that motion graphics practice requires. You will develop competence in the core tools of the discipline, including animation software, compositing, editing and the production pipelines through which motion graphics work is created and delivered, alongside the design principles of composition, colour, typography and visual rhythm that make motion work effective rather than merely technically competent. The history and theory of animation and moving image provide a critical and contextual foundation, and you will develop your own creative voice through studio projects that address real design problems in the motion graphics space. NTU's strong creative industries connections provide context and opportunity for applied work throughout the degree. Motion graphics trains visual intelligence, technical fluency with professional creative tools, the ability to think temporally as well as spatially, and the project management and communication skills that professional creative practice demands. Graduates pursue careers as motion graphic designers, animation directors, title designers, creative directors, UI animators and content producers in broadcast media, film and television, advertising, digital agencies, app development and the broader creative industries. The growing demand for animated and video content across digital platforms has expanded the opportunities in this field significantly. Postgraduate study in animation, moving image or digital design is available for those wishing to develop their practice further.
