LLB Law
About this course
Law is the discipline that defines how rights and responsibilities are allocated in a society, how disputes are resolved, and how power is constrained and exercised through rules and institutions. Studying it at undergraduate level requires you to read precisely, reason rigorously, and understand how legal principles develop through both legislation and judicial decision-making over time. A qualifying law degree meets the academic stage of training required to pursue a career as a solicitor or barrister in England and Wales, though the skills it develops are valued well beyond the legal profession. At Edge Hill University, this three-year full-time LLB (Hons) programme covers the foundations of English law, including contract, tort, criminal law, public law, equity, and the law of obligations, while also giving you the space to explore areas of particular interest as your studies develop. The programme includes a sandwich year and a year abroad, as well as work placement provision, meaning you graduate with substantial practical experience in legal or related professional settings. The combination of a qualifying law degree and real-world exposure is a significant advantage when competing for training contracts and other legal positions. The typical entry tariff is 120 UCAS points. Graduates pursue careers across the legal profession, including as solicitors, barristers, paralegals, legal executives, and in-house lawyers, following the appropriate professional training routes. Others go into law-adjacent careers in compliance, financial regulation, human resources, local government, NGOs, and public affairs, where legal knowledge is a significant asset. The research, writing, and analytical skills the degree develops also transfer into policy, journalism, and management consulting. Many graduates also continue to postgraduate study in law or related disciplines.
