BSc Biomedical Sciences
About this course
Biomedical sciences at UCL provides an exceptionally broad and rigorous introduction to the scientific understanding of human health and disease. The programme spans anatomy, cell biology, developmental biology, genetics, immunology, neuroscience, pharmacology, physiology and psychology, giving you a genuinely interdisciplinary grounding in the life sciences that underpin modern medicine and healthcare. This three-year full-time BSc is taught at one of the world's leading universities for medical and biological research, and the depth of the academic environment means that you learn alongside and from researchers who are shaping the fields you are studying. You will develop laboratory skills and quantitative reasoning alongside conceptual understanding, engaging with the experimental approaches through which biomedical knowledge is generated and tested. The programme is explicitly interdisciplinary, reflecting the reality that understanding human biology requires multiple scientific lenses rather than any single disciplinary perspective. UCL's biomedical sciences degree is designed to prepare graduates for the full range of careers in medicine, research, healthcare and the life sciences industries, and the breadth of the curriculum means you can develop particular interests in subsequent years and through postgraduate study. A typical entry tariff of around 216 points reflects the competitive nature of the programme. Graduates pursue careers in biomedical research, the pharmaceutical and biotechnology industries, clinical research organisations, NHS laboratory services, healthcare regulation and science communication. Many go on to postgraduate study in medicine, dentistry, a clinical profession, or a specialised research degree in one of the disciplines covered by the programme. UCL's reputation and research connections open doors across the full range of biomedical careers, and the degree is widely recognised as one of the strongest undergraduate preparations for a career in the life sciences.
