About this course
Advanced architectural technology is the discipline concerned with the technical realisation of buildings, bridging the creative vision of architecture with the engineering and management expertise needed to bring complex structures to completion safely, efficiently, and to the highest standards. Architectural technologists work across the entire building lifecycle, from initial design development and technical detailing through to construction administration and building performance evaluation. They are specialists in the technical aspects of building design, including structure, materials, environmental systems, and building regulations, and their skills are essential to any complex construction project. At Robert Gordon University this five-year integrated masters programme (MSci) carries dual accreditation from the Chartered Institute of Architectural Technologists at both undergraduate BSc (Hons) level and at masters level. You will develop from foundational principles of construction technology and building science through to advanced technical design, project management, building information modelling, and sustainable design practice. The integrated structure means you progress from undergraduate to masters level within a single programme, developing both technical depth and professional competence across five years of full-time study. Architectural technology graduates work in architectural practices, construction companies, specialist engineering consultancies, local authority planning and building control departments, and the public sector. Roles in technical design, project management, sustainability consultancy, and building information management are all common destinations. The CIAT accreditation provides a direct route towards chartered membership of the Chartered Institute of Architectural Technologists, which is the primary professional recognition in the field.
