BSc Economics
About this course
Economics provides the analytical tools for understanding some of the most fundamental forces shaping human society: how resources are allocated, how markets function, why some economies grow while others stagnate, and what policies can improve wellbeing for individuals and communities. It is a discipline grounded in both theory and evidence, combining rigorous modelling of how economies work with careful empirical analysis of what actually happens when policies and incentives change. These skills are among the most valued in the graduate labour market, opening doors across finance, policy, research, and business. At Roehampton University, this three-year full-time BSc includes a foundation year for students who benefit from additional preparation before engaging with the full degree curriculum, as well as a sandwich year that allows you to gain professional experience in a relevant organisation before completing your final year. Work placement is also integrated throughout the programme. You will study the core principles of microeconomics and macroeconomics, developing quantitative skills in statistics and econometrics alongside the economic theory needed to understand market behaviour, government policy, and international economic dynamics. Roehampton's supportive teaching environment and its south-west London location provide both academic engagement and access to the capital's economy. Graduates of economics programmes are consistently among the most employable graduates in any discipline. The analytical, quantitative and communication skills the degree develops are sought after in financial services, consultancy, the civil service, economic research, technology companies, international organisations, and business management. Many graduates also pursue postgraduate study in economics, finance, public policy, or data science, deepening their specialism or moving into research and academic careers.
