BSc Computer Science
About this course
Computer science is the foundation on which the digital world is built. It encompasses the theory of computation, the design of algorithms and data structures, software engineering, computer networks, databases, and the mathematical and logical principles that allow software and systems to be reasoned about rigorously. It is also, increasingly, the discipline most directly connected to transformative technologies including artificial intelligence, machine learning, virtual reality, and the internet of things. At Liverpool Hope University, this three-year full-time degree reflects the versatility and scope of the subject, covering networks, robotics, mobile and embedded computing, and cutting-edge technologies alongside the fundamentals of computer science. You will develop both theoretical understanding and practical programming and software development skills, engaging with areas including artificial intelligence, virtual reality, and augmented reality as the field continues to evolve rapidly. The programme includes a sandwich year for professional experience, a year abroad option, and work placements, all of which build the commercial awareness and applied competence that employers look for in computing graduates. The typical entry tariff is 104 UCAS points. Graduates of computer science programmes find careers across an enormous range of sectors. Software developer, systems analyst, data scientist, cybersecurity analyst, network engineer, AI engineer, and technology consultant are all common destinations, and computing graduates work in finance, healthcare, retail, media, government, defence, and virtually every other sector of the economy. Many graduates also pursue postgraduate study in computer science, artificial intelligence, data science, or cybersecurity, and the fundamental training of a computer science degree provides a strong foundation for research and specialist technical careers at the highest level.
