Motorsport engineering is a discipline that applies the principles of mechanical, aerodynamic and electronic engineering to the extreme performance demands of competitive racing. It is a field where marginal gains matter enormously, and where the drive to extract maximum speed, reliability and safety from a racing car requires both deep technical knowledge and the ability to work under intense time and competitive pressure. At Coventry University, this three-year full-time degree combines design, hands-on project work and industry-facing challenges with a sandwich year, year abroad and work placement, providing a comprehensive education in a subject for which Coventry, based in the heart of England's motorsport valley, is particularly well placed. You will study vehicle dynamics, aerodynamics, materials and lightweight structures, powertrain engineering, data analysis, control systems and the design processes used in professional motorsport teams. The practical and project-based elements of the programme are central: you will engage with real engineering challenges and develop the problem-solving skills that translate directly into professional motorsport and high-performance automotive roles. The sandwich year and work placement give you direct experience in the industry, building the professional relationships and technical portfolio that are essential for breaking into a competitive sector.
