About this course

Creative computing is a discipline that sits at the productive intersection of technology and the arts, examining how computational tools, data and code can be used as creative media rather than purely technical instruments. It encompasses generative art, interactive media, physical computing, data visualisation, sound design, game development and the critical and conceptual frameworks that help students understand what it means to create with and through technology. At Goldsmiths, which has one of the most distinctive approaches to this emerging field anywhere in the world, creative computing is genuinely both: rigorous computing education and genuine creative practice. This four-year integrated programme at Goldsmiths begins with a foundation year, making it accessible to students who have a strong creative or technical interest but who benefit from additional preparation before the full degree content begins. The programme includes a sandwich year and work placement opportunities, giving you the chance to work in a professional creative, technical or artistic context. You will study programming, physical computing, machine learning, audio and visual programming, data systems and the theoretical and critical perspectives that situate computing within the arts and cultural production. Goldsmiths' location in southeast London places you within one of the world's most vibrant creative and technology communities. The typical entry tariff is 72 UCAS points. Graduates work in creative technology, digital art, interaction design, UX, games development, music technology, film and television post-production, data visualisation, digital marketing, media production and software development for creative industries. Many also pursue freelance creative practice or set up studios and start-ups at the intersection of technology and creative production. Some continue to postgraduate study in creative computing, interactive media, digital arts or computer science.
