BSc Data Science And Artificial Intelligence
About this course
Data science and artificial intelligence represent two of the most transformative technical fields of the current era. Data science is concerned with extracting knowledge and insight from large and complex datasets, applying statistical methods, machine learning, data engineering and visualisation to turn raw data into actionable understanding. Artificial intelligence extends these methods into the design of systems that can learn, reason, perceive and act in ways that exhibit intelligent behaviour. Together, they form the technical backbone of many of the most significant developments in technology, commerce, medicine and government. At Bangor University, this three-year full-time degree, which is available with a foundation year for students who need additional preparation in mathematics and computing before degree-level study, develops your competence across both fields. The foundation year provides a structured introduction to the mathematical and computational thinking that the degree requires, ensuring you have a solid foundation before engaging with more advanced content. In the main programme you will study statistics and probability, machine learning, neural networks, data engineering, programming, algorithmic design, natural language processing, and the ethical dimensions of AI, developing both the theoretical understanding and the practical skills that data science and AI roles require. A year abroad is available, giving you the opportunity to study in another academic environment and to broaden your international perspective. You will develop strong analytical and programming skills, the capacity to work with complex data, and the ability to communicate technical findings clearly to different audiences. Graduates move into data science, machine learning engineering, AI development, data analytics, business intelligence, research, technology consultancy, and a wide range of roles in organisations across finance, healthcare, technology, government and the sciences. Postgraduate study in data science, AI, machine learning or statistics is a natural pathway for those who want to develop deeper expertise.
