LLB Law
About this course
Law is a discipline of both intellectual rigour and direct social consequence, training you to think precisely about rules and their application, to construct arguments from evidence and to communicate complex ideas with clarity and purpose. It provides not only knowledge of the legal system but the analytical capacities that are central to legal practice and to a wide range of other professional paths. As society becomes increasingly complex and regulated, legal literacy is a valuable asset across many fields beyond formal legal practice. At Coventry, this three-year full-time programme includes a sandwich year, a year abroad and a work placement, giving you substantial professional and international experience alongside your legal education. The programme builds practical legal skills alongside academic knowledge, with opportunities to work on real cases, develop courtroom experience and learn from practitioners with professional experience. The sandwich year and work placement give you direct engagement with legal or related professional environments, and the year abroad allows you to study law in a different jurisdiction, developing your comparative legal understanding and international outlook. You will cover the core areas of English law, including contract, tort, criminal law, public law and equity, while developing the research, analytical and written advocacy skills that legal practice demands. Coventry's emphasis on practical legal skills prepares you for the realities of working in law, whether in private practice, the public sector or an in-house legal team. Graduates pursue training contracts and pupillages, or move into compliance, financial services, the civil service, human resources, international business and management consulting. Postgraduate study in law or a specialist legal field is a natural option, as is the Solicitors Qualifying Examination route to qualification.
