About this course

Description As a student of Bioinformatics you will learn to solve biological problems by means of mathematical and statistical calculation methods by use of a computer. Bioinformatics is an extremely active, interdisciplinary field of research. Over the past five decades, biological research has revolutionised our understanding of life's molecular basis. Research has evolved from the 1940's discovery that genetic information is coded within DNA, until today, when the completed DNA sequences for a number of species – including humans – are known. These, as well as other important discoveries, have permanently changed the biological sciences. Not too long ago, genes were studied one at a time. Now, experimental technologies allow us the chance to investigate all of an organism's genes, as well as their levels of activity and complex interactions. Bioinformatics is indispensable in the management and analysis of increasingly vast quantities of data generated by these experiments. The field aims to tackle biological hurdles using mathematical and statistical computational methods. Modern biological and medical research are virtually impossible without bioinformatics. During the course of the programme you will learn to: control situations at work and in developments that are complex, unpredictable and require new solutions individually initiate and complete collaborations and take professional responsibility find, extract, interpret and evaluate large dataset in complex biological processes individually take responsibility for your own scientific evolution and specialization Read about the programme structure Career Opportunities Many MSc graduates in bioinformatics find employment in biotech companies. A large proportion of the graduates continue on to a PhD programme. Admission Please read about the specific admission requirements that apply if you have a relevant Bachelor degree from a university in Denmark or abroad .
