Master Biological and Environmental Science, Master of Science (2 yrs)
About this course
Both global and local environmental problems make studying biological and environmental sciences important and meaningful. Due to climate change and the decrease in natural resources and biodiversity, there is a growing need for specialists in the field. Our programme provides you with the ability to understand different phenomena of life comprehensively, from molecular interaction to the functioning of ecosystems. You can specialise in one of two subfields: Studies in aquatic science focus on environmental and biological factors and processes that determine the characteristics and ecosystem services of inland waters and the sustainable use of their renewable natural resources. Studies in ecology and evolutionary biology take a broad perspective from genes to ecosystems, covering both theory and practical applications. Your studies are research-based, and you will have the opportunity to work closely with active researchers in the department. Surrounded by lakes and forests in the idyllic landscape of Central Finland, we are in an ideal position to combine fieldwork in natural environments with laboratory and theoretical studies.
