BA Computer Science and Digital Creativity
About this course
Computer science and digital creativity is a combination that sits at the intersection of technology and artistic expression, recognising that the most interesting and innovative digital work tends to arise where coding meets creativity. Computer science provides the technical foundations: programming, algorithms, data structures, and the systems knowledge that underlies all software. Digital creativity brings in the aesthetic, conceptual, and cultural dimensions of making with technology, spanning game design, graphic design, music technology, interactive installations, and the broader space of digital arts practice. At Liverpool Hope this three-year full-time programme reflects the university's distinctive combination of strengths across music, performance, visual arts, and computer science. You will develop practical programming and software skills alongside creative practice in one or more digital arts disciplines, learning to work with the tools that artists and designers use to create and perform with technology. The curriculum explores creative convergence, the way in which digital tools are opening new possibilities for artistic expression that blur the boundaries between traditional art forms and technological media. A sandwich year, a year abroad, and work placement experience are all available in the programme, providing professional experience, international exposure, and a portfolio of practical work alongside your academic studies. Graduates move into careers in game design and development, interactive media, digital art, music technology, graphic design, software development, UX and UI design, and the broader creative and technology industries. The combination of technical capability and creative thinking is highly valued by employers who need graduates that can contribute to both sides of digital product and experience development. Many graduates also go on to postgraduate study in digital arts, creative computing, or game design.
