BSc Digital Design
About this course
Digital design is the discipline concerned with the creation of visual and interactive experiences across the digital platforms that increasingly shape how we communicate, work, learn, and entertain ourselves. It encompasses user interface and user experience design, graphic design for digital media, motion graphics, interactive media, and the design systems that maintain consistency across complex digital products. The discipline requires both creative visual judgment and a practical understanding of the technologies and constraints within which digital design operates. At Glasgow Caledonian University, this programme is available as a two-year direct entry route for students who have already completed a relevant Higher National Diploma or equivalent college qualification, allowing them to graduate with an honours degree within two years. You will develop advanced skills in visual design, interaction design, typography, motion, and the tools and workflows that professional digital designers use. The programme builds your understanding of how design decisions affect user experience, how to work within and contribute to design systems, and how digital design practice connects to broader questions about communication, culture, and the way people interact with technology. Glasgow Caledonian's location in a major city provides access to a range of industry connections and creative sector organisations. Graduates go on to careers as UX designers, UI designers, graphic designers, motion designers, digital product designers, and creative directors across technology companies, agencies, broadcasters, publishers, and in-house design teams. The combination of creative ability and technical understanding the degree develops is valued across the full range of sectors that produce digital products and content. Many graduates pursue postgraduate study in design, human-computer interaction, or creative technology, and some build careers in design education or research.
