BA Education with Spanish
About this course
Education with Spanish is a degree that combines serious academic engagement with education as a discipline with the language skills and cultural awareness that Spanish provides. Education as a field examines how learning happens, how schools and educational systems are organised, how policy shapes what goes on in classrooms, and how wider social and cultural factors influence children's educational experiences. Spanish gives you direct access to the language, literature, and culture of one of the world's most widely spoken languages, opening perspectives on education and society that are genuinely enriching. At Aberystwyth University, this four-year full-time programme develops your language competencies and cultural awareness alongside your understanding of developments in the education sector. You will have the opportunity to take part in an exchange programme in Spain, where you can either teach English through a British Council programme or study at one of the university's partner institutions in Spain. This placement is a genuine highlight of the degree, giving you direct experience of education in a Spanish-speaking context and building the confidence and fluency that the academic study of language alone cannot fully develop. On successful completion, students are eligible to apply for PGCE training at primary level. A typical entry tariff of 136 points applies. You will develop Spanish language proficiency across reading, writing, listening, and speaking alongside engagement with education theory, policy, child development, and the sociology and psychology of learning. The bilingual and educational formation you develop is directly relevant to careers in teaching, educational development, and international contexts. Graduates go on to PGCE programmes leading to Qualified Teacher Status, careers in international schools, educational development organisations, youth work, and a range of roles where Spanish language and educational knowledge are combined.
