Games technology is the technical discipline at the heart of how video games are built. Where games design focuses on the creative and conceptual dimensions of games, games technology is concerned with the programming, engine systems, rendering pipelines, physics simulation, artificial intelligence, audio systems and real-time computing that make the designed experience actually work. It is a demanding technical field that requires both deep programming skill and the problem-solving ability to build performant systems under tight computational constraints, across platforms from mobile to console to VR. At Coventry University you will study games technology over four years of full-time study, developing advanced programming, game engine and real-time computing skills through hands-on projects and industry collaboration using modern technologies. A sandwich year and the opportunity for a year abroad extend the programme with professional and international experience, and work placement is integrated throughout, giving you exposure to how games are developed in real studio environments.
