History is one of the foundational disciplines of the humanities, concerned with how human beings have organised their lives, exercised power, made sense of the world, and changed across time. It develops the ability to read sources carefully and sceptically, to reconstruct events and processes from incomplete evidence, to construct arguments that are proportionate to what the evidence will actually bear, and to communicate findings with clarity and precision.
