BSc Information Technology
About this course
Information technology is the study of how computing systems, software, networks and digital tools are designed, implemented and used to process, store and communicate information. It sits at the practical end of the computing spectrum, concerned with how technology is applied in organisational and social contexts: how systems are specified and built to meet real needs, how they are managed and maintained, how they interact with users, and how digital information flows through and between organisations. IT professionals are the architects and managers of the digital infrastructure that modern organisations depend on. At Teesside University, this part-time programme gives you the opportunity to develop your IT knowledge and skills while managing other commitments. You will engage with the circular economy and the business opportunities it presents, developing your understanding of how digital technology can support sustainable business models with social impact. The programme develops your understanding of user experience and user interface design, equipping you to think about how digital products and services can be made more intuitive and effective. You will also engage with current digital tools and develop practical skills in app design and digital product development. The part-time mode allows you to study at a pace that suits your circumstances, developing your IT knowledge alongside practical experience you may already have in digital or technology-adjacent roles. The programme is designed to be directly relevant to the working world, with practical projects that connect your learning to real applications. Graduates move into IT management, systems administration, digital project management, UX and interface design, business analysis, software support, digital transformation roles, and a wide range of positions in organisations where IT competence and business understanding are both required. Further study at postgraduate level in IT, digital business or related fields is an option for those who want to develop deeper expertise.
