About this course
Welsh with creative writing is a degree that brings together two disciplines with deep roots in the cultural life of Wales and the broader literary tradition. Welsh is one of Europe's oldest surviving languages, with a continuous literary tradition stretching back over a millennium and a living cultural vitality that makes it central to the identity of Wales and its communities. Studying it at degree level develops not only your command of the language but your understanding of the literature, history, and contemporary culture of Welsh-speaking Wales. Creative writing develops your abilities as a writer across different forms, including poetry, fiction, and other genres, asking you to engage with craft, voice, and the pleasures and difficulties of making original work. At Bangor University, this three-year, full-time degree offers a foundation year for students who benefit from additional preparation before the degree proper, and a sandwich year that provides the opportunity for professional experience. Work placements are embedded in the course, and a year abroad is available, giving you the chance to encounter different cultural and linguistic environments.
