Criminal Defense Attorney

Criminal defence lawyers represent people who've been accused of crimes. They challenge the evidence against them, explain their rights, and fight for the best possible outcome in court.

The UK Degree Advantage

A UK degree in law provides candidates with a robust understanding of the British legal system, critical thinking skills, and a network of professional contacts. Universities in the UK are renowned for their rigorous legal education, which is highly regarded by employers in the legal sector.

The Role & Expectations

As a criminal defence attorney, you help people accused of crimes get a fair trial. Your job is to look at the evidence carefully, spot any problems with the case against them, and argue in court that they shouldn't be convicted - or that the punishment should be fair. It's important work because everyone deserves a proper defence, even people accused of serious things.

You spend a lot of time reading case files and law books, meeting clients to hear their side of the story, and writing documents for court. In the courtroom, you challenge witnesses, argue before a judge and negotiate with prosecutors. The job is challenging - clients are often stressed and scared - but you need to stay calm and professional. You also need to accept that sometimes the outcome is disappointing, and that's part of defending people fairly in the legal system.
