The Role & Expectations
As a radiography assistant, you help prepare patients for imaging procedures - X-rays, CT scans, MRIs - and help radiographers run the equipment. You might explain to a nervous patient what will happen so they feel less anxious, help position them correctly for their scan, and then help the radiographer get clear images.
Your day involves talking to patients, setting up equipment, keeping everything clean and safe, and recording information accurately so doctors get the right scans for the right person. You need to be organised, calm with people who are worried or in pain, and careful about following safety rules - especially around radiation. You will work as part of a team with radiographers and doctors, and seeing those scans help save lives makes this work meaningful.
Daily Responsibilities
- Prepare patients for radiographic procedures by explaining the process and ensuring comfort.
- Assist radiographers in setting up and maintaining imaging equipment.
- Ensure that patient records and imaging results are accurately logged and managed.
- Maintain a clean and safe working environment by adhering to health and safety protocols.
- Support patients during imaging procedures, providing reassurance and assistance as needed.
- Monitor equipment functionality and report any issues to the radiography team.
- Assist in the transportation of patients to and from imaging departments.
- Participate in training sessions and professional development to enhance radiographic knowledge.
