THE DOOR: ENTRY DIFFICULTY TODAY, graded A (easy) to E (extremely hard). A Careermash rule-of-thumb index built from our AI exposure index and the job's moat class. It is not a forecast and not a count of job openings.

AI EXPOSURE TODAY is a Careermash index from 0 to 100 of how exposed this job's everyday tasks are to AI today. We estimate it by matching published research on how people use AI to this job, usually by keyword or subject area, and we lower it where the work is protected (for example by physical, personal or legal requirements). It is not a direct measurement of how much people in this job use AI.

AI exposure is low for this work today
AI exposure today for this job is low on our index (4), an estimate rather than a measurement. We have not yet classified what, if anything, structurally protects it, so we make no claim either way about a moat. Learn the tools, and build the judgement that stays human.

The role

As a glazier, window fabricator and fitter, you work with glass and windows in all sorts of buildings. You measure where the glass needs to go, cut it to the right size, and fit it carefully into place. You might install new windows in a house being built, replace broken glass in a shopfront, or fit glass panels and doors in an office building. You need to be precise because if it is not fitted properly, the building will not be weatherproof and secure.

Most days you will be on a building site or working in people's homes. You will use tools to measure and cut glass, fit frames and seals to make windows energy-efficient and safe, and make sure everything is secure. You might also need to go up ladders or scaffolding to work at height, so you need to be comfortable with that and follow strict safety rules to keep yourself and others safe.

Daily responsibilities

  • Measure and cut glass and other materials to precise specifications.
  • Install windows, doors, and glass panels in residential and commercial properties.
  • Repair and replace damaged glass and window fittings to maintain structural integrity.
  • Collaborate with architects and builders to ensure designs are executed accurately.
  • Apply sealants and insulation to improve energy efficiency and weather resistance.
  • Adhere to safety regulations and best practices while working at heights.
  • Maintain tools and equipment, ensuring they are in optimal working condition.
  • Provide excellent customer service, addressing client needs and concerns professionally.
