AI EXPOSURE TODAY is a Careermash index from 0 to 100 of how exposed this job's everyday tasks are to AI today. We estimate it by matching published research on how people use AI to this job, usually by keyword or subject area, and we lower it where the work is protected (for example by physical, personal or legal requirements). It is not a direct measurement of how much people in this job use AI.

AI exposure is low for this work today
AI exposure today for this job is low on our index (10), an estimate rather than a measurement. We have not yet classified what, if anything, structurally protects it, so we make no claim either way about a moat. Learn the tools, and build the judgement that stays human.

The role

As a Medical and Dental Technician, you use your hands and your eye for detail to make equipment that helps patients. You work with dentists and doctors to understand exactly what they need, then you design and build devices from materials like metals, ceramics and plastics. Every crown you make or hearing aid you fit helps someone hear better or smile with confidence.

Your day involves mixing hands-on work with problem-solving. You might be casting a denture, using special tools to shape a bridge for someone's teeth, or testing a piece of equipment to make sure it meets safety rules. You work closely with the dentists and doctors who will use what you make, checking their feedback and adjusting your work to get it just right.

Daily responsibilities

  • Fabricate and fit dental appliances, such as crowns, bridges, and dentures, using precision tools and materials.
  • Conduct quality control tests on medical and dental products to ensure they meet regulatory standards.
  • Collaborate with dentists and medical professionals to discuss patient requirements and design specifications.
  • Maintain and repair equipment used in the production of medical devices and dental products.
  • Keep accurate records of materials used, production processes, and modifications made to designs.
  • Stay updated on advancements in technology and materials used in the medical and dental fields.
  • Provide technical support and advice to healthcare professionals regarding the use of devices and appliances.
